How to look after your body with a range of Pevonia products
What would you suggest for a basic body care regime?
Smooth, healthy, beautiful looking skin is the goal we all aim for. We already know it starts from the inside out with a good diet and plenty of water. Vitamin supplements are a good way to get the vitamins and minerals our body needs. We've heard this before and for good reason, it works. When our bodies take in all the nutrients and healthy oils from eating well, it shows in our skin.
Along with working from the inside out, there is a wealth of body care products to choose from to help alleviate the everyday environmental factors that can harm our skin: heat, cold, indoor dryness, pollution and the sun. Even allergic reactions can create problems for our skin.
Pevonia recommends these easy Body Care Tips:
1. Exfoliate
In the past, rough materials such as loofah, dried corn cobs and even sand have been used. Today, the most popular ways to perform dry skin brushing is with the still popular loofah, exfoliation mitt or my favourite; a long handled vegetable fibre brush. A body brush is inexpensive and you buy one on our website www.thebeautyhouse.co.uk
The benefits of dry body brushing
· Helps to remove dead skin cells, opening pores and preventing clogging
· Increases blood flow to the skin and improves circulation
· Increases lymphatic circulation by stimulating the lymph glands to release toxins -The lymph glands are a part of our body’s natural defence system. Lymph travels through our lymph system located throughout our body (groin, armpit, neck, under the jaw, behind the ears and the back of the head) and helps filter impurities eventually moving them out through the body’s waste system
· The added benefit of Body Brushing is that it helps fight cellulite by assisting in breaking down those fat cells
2. Cleanse
It is important to clean the skin but not over clean as many soaps create problems when they are overly harsh. Your products should aim to remove excess skin cells, grime and excess oils without stripping the skin of all its natural oils leaving it feeling dry and uncomfortable.
Your cleansing routine may be an invigorating shower or a more relaxing bath where you can add bath salts or oils that help us unwind while the warm water open our pores allowing our skin to absorb healthy minerals or essential oils. Just not too hot it can be very drying.
We recommend these excellent Pevonia products:
Bath Salts with Essential Oils “Anti-Stress”

Combining Seaweed, one of the greatest marine elements with Almond oil to soothe and moisturise, Shea Butter to nourish and heal plus Lemon and Lime essential oils to stimulates circulation and refines the pores removes build-up, and renders your skin silky-smooth.
3. Moisturise

Squalane, Lavender, and Chamomile synergize to deliver a replenishing veil rendering your body silky-soft with a radiant, healthy glow.
4. Protect
We all should ensure that sunscreen is part of our regular routine. Protecting our skin with clothing, hats and sunscreen has become vital for long term skin health. Consider using a sunscreen which offers a safer way to protect skin with natural ingredients like titanium dioxide. This works by reflecting the sun rays and have been found effective in protecting us against harmful UV rays. Use a high factor sunscreen; SPF30 this is the maximum natural protection you can receive from a product without having to add chemicals. Make sure it is broad spectrum to protect you from UVA and UVB. Apply it generously, before you go out in the sun, and re-apply regularly.
This full body care routine is something to follow on a daily basis. At the very least do the basics, cleanse, moisturise and protect, a simple daily routine like this soon becomes as much a part of your day as brushing your teeth.
Is it true that hot showers aren’t good for skin?
We all tend to think that standing in a hot steamy shower would help hydrate our skins. But long showers, particularly in hot water, can actually have the opposite effect.
Our skin contains special proteins and fats that make up the skin’s protective barrier and locks in moisture to protect us from harsh outside environments. Dry winter air, central heating, air conditioning, extremes of temperature and the frequent hot baths and showers we take all strip our skin of this natural protection. Long or frequent showers remove protective oils that the skin naturally produces. When the oils are lost, water from the skin also escapes. Using harsh soap or products containing ingredients such as Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (SLS), a detergent used to create foam, can exacerbate the effect leaving dehydrated sensitive skin.
Water itself can also have detrimental effects on the skin. Think of the residue that builds up in a kettle. Water can contain Calcaric, Phosphoric, Lime scale, Rust residues which in hard water areas can be very drying to the skin. Hard water even harbours bacteria which can cause acne. This combined with drying effects of long hot showers can have a major effect on the appearance and condition of the skin.
Extremes of hot and cold water can be detrimental to the fine capillary network within the skin. These extremes cause the capillary walls to constrict and dilate too quickly causing tiny tears in the walls, which are commonly known as broken capillaries
Dehydrated, dry and sensitive skins often have thin skin that provides less protection and therefore, these skin types are the most commonly affected by broken capillaries.
Pevonia Botanica recommends taking a shorter shower (no more than 10 minutes) in lukewarm water, rather than hot. Replace traditional soaps with shower gels infused with essential oils, the essential oils can help to replace the natural oils that water strips from your skin.
Anti- Stress Bath and Shower Gel 200ml
A wonderful shower gel that can be used by all the family, enriched with Hazel Nut and Sweet Almond Oils to nourish and moisturise all skin types. The natural foaming agent Saponaria creates a gentle foam without the drying effects of SLS. After showering, gently pat (don't rub) the skin partially dry with a towel. Then apply a body moisturiser to seal the moisture into the skin before it can evaporate. For the face we recommend applying a Pevonia Botanica skin lotion to treat specific skin types these alcohol free lotions, treat the skin whilst removing all hard water residue.
Is there any way to minimise the appearance of cellulite?
Puffy appearance, dimpled skin, uneven texture and poor circulation are all the tell tale signs of ‘cellulite’ and will vary in severity from one person to another dependant on the factors affecting the cellulite.
Cellulite can affect men and women of any body size, weight or body structure.
There are many factors affecting cellulite these include:
· Free radical damage - these are found in the air around us and will deteriorate our skin cells and their immunity
· Poor diet. At Pevonia we believe in working from the inside out; a poor diet including alcohol, caffeine and spicy foods will contribute to the formation of cellulite. Switching to a healthy diet will improve circulation, energy and skin radiance and will reduce the appearance of cellulite
· Low levels of activity will slow down our metabolism and circulation so by taking small steps to increase activity levels you will soon notice results
· Water intake - ensure you stay hydrated as this will help with the circulation and rids the body of toxins. We suggest drinking room-temperature water or water flavoured with cucumber and mint or lemon
· Women’s hormone levels can intensify the appearance of cellulite as high levels of oestrogen can cause the fat cells to enlarge causing water retention and lack of product usage
Pevonia is proud to pioneer the useof the green coffee bean extract within a body wrap to treat cellulite. This ingredient was chosen based on proven research indicating that it is a 100% total inhibitor of free radicals formation, capable of improving microcirculation, detoxifying, increasing diuresis (the discharge of urine) and breaking down fat. This treatment is highly recommended for all skin types.
The Green Coffee Body Wrap for Cellulite is the ultimate answer to effectively treating cellulite. The wrap stimulates the body’s ability to break down fat and transform it into energy, increasing metabolism and eliminating water retention. 100% pure Green coffee is derived from Brazil and as the beans are un-roasted they are fresher and therefore at their most active potential. Containing twice the amount of caffeine as standard drinking coffee they are naturally rich in Chlorogenic acid, polysaccharides and proteins as well as essential oils which will smooth and enhance the skin’s overall texture thus reducing spongy, dimply cellulite areas. To further enhance the results we recommend a course of treatments to promote exceptional results and re-educate the skin with regular reminders, combined with a healthy eating plan, regular exercise and home care routine.
To compliment the results achieved from the Green Coffee Body Wrap Pevonia also offers two home care products:
A highly stimulating gel formulation combining the latest and most active, proven-effective cellulite-performing ingredient of: Green Coffee to improve the skin’s elasticity, smooth and strengthen the skin tissue. This gel improves skin surface appearance by eliminating water stagnation and toxin retention. Fat elimination is encouraged by boosting the skin’s ability to transform fat into energy effectively addressing any cellulite problem areas. Visible results include a hydrated, smoother and even looking skin. Recommended for all skin types.

An ideal cream for maximised visible results and recommended for all skin types.
How can you get rid of uneven skin tone and bumps on the backs of arms?
This skin complaint is a very common genetic follicular condition that is manifested by the appearance of rough bumps on the skin; hence it is often referred to as ‘chicken skin’.
Keratosis pilaris, or KP as it is known most often appears on the back and outer sides of the upper arms, although the lower arms can also be affected and can also occur on the thighs and tops of legs, flanks, buttocks, or any body part except the palms or soles of feet.
KP occurs when the human body produces excess keratin which is a natural protein in the skin. The excess keratin surrounds and entraps the hair follicles in the pore. This causes the formation of hard plugs known as hyper-keratinization. The painless bumps are skin-coloured, although they can become red and inflamed at times. Usually many plugs form in an area, causing patches of rough, bumpy skin. This gives the skin a sandpaper or chicken flesh appearance. This may be more severe in the winter or times of low humidity, which causes the skin to become dry.
Many KP bumps contain an ingrown hair that has coiled. This is a result of the keratinized skin's "capping off" the hair follicle, preventing the hair from exiting. The hair then grows inside the follicle. The hair can be removed, much like an ingrown hair, though removal can lead to scarring.
KP may be hereditary. It is present in babies and continues into adulthood, but is uncommon in elderly people. It is most obvious during the teenage years. Regular care for the skin needs to include exfoliation.

What are the main benefits of choosing a more natural/organic skincare range?
Organic is one of the latest buzz words within the beauty industry, but it’s also a very confusing subject that everyone has different conceptions of what an Organic product actually is. Many of us are unaware that Organic products are sometimes not all they seem. For a product to be deemed as “Organic”, only 70% of the product actually needs to be organic. The remaining 30% can be made up of anything!
Making “Organic” misleading, very often ingredients such as plastic are added – how do they get away with it? Because 70% of the ingredients are ok! Natural products only have to have 1% natural ingredients to have Natural printed on its packaging, again giving a confusing message to the consumer.
Organic ingredients need to have been farmed in soil that has not been sprayed with pesticides, and extracted without chemicals. Pevonia’s commitment to environmental conservation has recently been recognised through the attainment of the Organic Trade Association (OTA) seal. To participate in this accolade, members must be part of an organic business alliance that promotes and protects the growth of organic trade thus benefiting farmers, the environment, the public and the economy. The seal adds further acclaim to Pevonia Botanica’s eco friendly credentials.
Pevonia encompasses a mix of naturally sourced 100% pure ingredients and extracts with the most advanced technologies to deliver and guarantee powerful properties. All Pevonia products do not contain any inorganic chemically synthetically produced ingredients. Pevonia Botanica does not classify itself as an “Organic line” and never will because we use phyto-extracts that have been grown in organic conditions. Pevonia has really been organic since 1991, we just have not used the word organic as we have our own philosophy based on “natural formulations with organic extracts, paraben free”. The company’s ethos sees the blend of science with therapy utilising all naturally sourced ingredients that treat the skin. The ingredients can be marine, essential oil or plant based and eliminates poor quality ingredients that are detrimental to ensure the skins is healthier, stronger and you achieve results.
Those of us with skin allergies, sensitive skin, chronic skin conditions and those who want an "organic lifestyle" will benefit from one less chemical exposure, So by using natural formulations with organic extracts we decrease the skin’s toxin burden and increase the skin’s intake of vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants which can make a significant impact on skin health. To make healthier choices we need encouragement and education to understand exactly what products can achieve and the ingredients to avoid.
