Sharon explains Pevonia’s effective solutions and advice for men’s skin care

Men want to keep skin youthful and healthy looking just as much as women. Some good advice to men is that they have got to make skin care a part of their daily regimen. According to Mathew Avram, MD, JD, director of the Dermatology, Laser and Cosmetic Center at Massachusetts General Hospital, sun and smoking are your face's worst enemies because both cause skin damage and wrinkling. "If you smoke, quit," says Avram. "Using a moisturizer with sun block is a very effective way to prevent aging and wrinkling."

Questions & Answers from Pevonia

What are ingrown hairs?

Ingrown hairs can occur around the beard or moustache line. Shaving causes the end of the hair to blunt at skin level. New skin builds on top and the hair is unable to push though the surface causing it to turn back in on itself. As hair carries bacteria this becomes infected which gives the appearance of a raised red bump or pustule.

How to I treat an ingrown hair?

The aim is to remove the hair because it continues to grow inwards. Usually upon careful removal of the pustule the ingrown hair will follow, if it has gone deeper into the skin it may take a period of time to come out. To offer a speedier removal of the hair it is recommended to exfoliate the skin, which gently removes dead layers of sin and encourages the hair to change direction and grow inwards. Apply the Pevonia Spot Treatment directly onto the area to maintain hygiene, lessen risk of further infection and to draw the hair to the surface.

My skin becomes very sore and sensitive after shaving, what can I do to reduce this?

The cause may be the product chosen to shave which may not provide enough ‘slip’ on the skin.

Suggested skincare routine: skin must be prepared and softened before shaving. This is achieved by cleansing the face first with Pevonia Aqua Gel Foaming Cleanser. Before shaving apply Pevonia Easy Glide Shaving Emulsion to the areas to be shaved. This will achieve a closer, more comfortable shave. Finish with the application of Pevonia Soothing After Shaving Balm to soothe, protect and calm the skin after shaving.

I have noticed my skin has become less firm, how can I combat this?

Due to shaving regularly, friction can weaken the skin’s elasticity. Therefore, an anti-ageing product is required. Pevonia’s Age-Defying Caviar Balm can be applied as a moisturiser to the eyes, neck and face.
